San Juan, Dec 12 (EFE) .- The secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC), Manuel Cidre, announced this Sunday that from tomorrow, Monday, the owners of SMEs on the island will be able to access a portal to request a $ 25,000 incentive for the installation of solar panels in their businesses.
Merchants will be able to apply for financial aid through the portal reinforcementeconómico.com, Cidre said in a press release.
“The purpose is to provide energy cost relief to small and medium-sized business traders, who are the ones who most need support at the moment, while developing other SMEs that serve the energy market,” said Cidre in the release.
As announced by the Governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, on October 4, there is an allocation of 20 million dollars for these purposes, coming from the federal Law of the American Rescue Plan.
For his part, Francisco Berríos, director of the DDEC’s Public Energy Policy Program (PPPE), indicated that the goal is to grant the incentive to approximately 1,000 companies.
Financial aid to SMEs will depend on the requests that the PPPE receives, which meet all the requirements and the cost of each project, Berríos said.
Likewise, different eligibility and preference requirements are taken into account, which include the region where the business is located, the economic sector it represents, the energy savings of the project, income and the number of employees, among others, the official detailed.
Given this, representatives of the PPPE of the DDEC will carefully evaluate each request, prior to granting the incentive, to ensure that they meet all the requirements.
Berríos, in turn, warned that, once the incentive is granted, the beneficiaries will have up to a maximum of 12 months to use it.
